About our School
The Kenyukan Goju Ryu Karate Academy was established in Sydney, Australia in 1973, under the direction of Sensei Alexander de Araya,
Kaicho 8th Dan Goju Ryu karate, 5th Dan Kobudo, 2nd Dan Aikijutsu. Sensei started his Martial studies in
1964 in Goju Kai Karate Do,
under the guidance of Sensei E Ramirez who was at the time the only Goju Ryu practitioner from Latin America, trained and graded by
Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi at the Goju Kai Karate College in Tokyo, Japan. Later he (Sensei Ramirez) went onto become Morio Higaona's
representative for the whole of the Americas for the
IOGKF and Sensei de Araya also took a turn to Okinawa Goju Ryu late in 1980. In the
year 2000 while staying in China he also studied the
Tig-wa (oldest form of Goju Ryu) under Shifu Ming Kau Lai.
During the course of 45 years, Sensei has had the pleasure and the humility to train under many of the most senior Sensei in the Goju Ryu
world, including M. Higaona, G Yamaguchi, M Nakayima, K Kuniyuki, K Nakamura, his friend and mentor Hanshi K Nakahoto 10th dan, and
several of Shimpo Matayoshi's top students, and has kept credit to all those who helped him achieve the position he holds today.
Our karate system combines the best aspects of Japanese and Okinawan Goju Ryu, Okinawa  Kobudo and Aikijutsu and thanks to
Sensei's research and expertise, we are now able to merge these systems into one formidable weapon.
Sensei believes the Art of Karate-do alone is
not enough to develop  good all around combat skills, that's why the system also incorporates
the study of Okinawa weapons of self defence (Kobudo) and close combat techniques at short range, armed and unarmed. As you know,
White Crane Gong Fu and Goju  Ryu Karate techniques, were especially designed for close combat, therefore, they are  easily applied in
real combat situations.

Sensei has been deeply involved in the development of our karate, and this has taken him to many places and has trained with many
people, especially in Japan and Okinawa. The proof is, - the many champions, our people, and the many affiliated Sensei whom have
chosen him as their tutor and guide, and the many students and truly magnificent people whom after more than 38 years since he started
teaching,
still call him Sensei.

In 2009 Sensei de Araya was honoured with admission to the
Dai Nippon Butokukai, an elite Organisation of Japanese Martial Arts
created in Kyoto in 1895.

The Kokusai Kenyukan Goju Ryu Karate and Kobudo Association

The Kokusai Kenyukan Goju Ryu Karate & Kobudo Kai (KKGKK) was formed to associate Instructors from all walks of life, who are truly
dedicated, hard working but perhaps in an struggle to maintain a valuable status within or without Federative support in their countries.
In the KKGKK we hope to achieve many things, none of which has anything to do with prize money and/or gratuitous self promotions. The
Association boasts members from 9 countries, and a round figure of 2000 students worldwide. These Instructors and students are the only
beneficiaries of the Organisation, and are and will not be challenged by dollar figures or economic pressures.
Most of the benefits in as far as training, technique, all around knowledge and sharing is concerned, will be duly passed on to all
regardless of race, color, creed or size of their wallets. In our view, all people have the right to learn to defend themselves, without the
stigma of cost.
If an Instructor cries for help because for one reason or another has fallen victim of politics, revenge attacks, envy or whatever, and can't
afford to belong to any of the hundreds of "prestigious" Associations, Federations or Alliances which exist today, where everything is given
to him/her providing he or she pays for the "privilege", then he or she is looking to the wrong solution to their problem.
In the KKGKK we do not offer or sell anything to anybody, and we do not send coffee mugs for signing up, nor we send self gratifying
Certificates of Rank, because we are not a Black belt producing enterprise. However, and unlike some associations where only Japanese
and Okinawan people are destined to become Heads of Style, we offer this possibility to
anyone who complies with the requirements of
admission.
In the KKGKK we accept all genuine people, with genuine grades and genuine pursuits, but not those who seek a quick promotion and a
false sense of grandeur because of a piece of paper. For that, you can join some of the Grand Master's Associations proliferating on the
Web, who will sell you anything of little or not value so that you could become their Representative in your country. Dream on!
Our Association will endure and will grow over time because of our commitment to self reliance, friendship and loyalty to our membership,
and because as a group we are not looking at who is the best or who owns the nicest dojo... we are looking at who is prepared to work and
accept common goals to achieve results, not glory!
