Why do we think you should study Karate?
|
Statistics show that more and more people are getting hurt, getting bigger, and getting lazier. In many instances these situations
could have been easily avoided. How?
Simply by accepting the fact that we are living in a violent society, by accepting that you could be in the wrong end of the stick one
day, and by accepting the fact that perhaps we do not care for each other anymore, not even ourselves!
To prevent this event from happening to you, there are many avenues for you to explore. Martial Arts training is one of them; -the
total body workout,- and this is just the beginning! Fitness and self defence are just two simple reasons why people should look at
martial arts as an avenue to well being and self preservation, rather than sitting around in front of the television, or playing console
games all day.
Doing Karate is not just throwing kicks and punches. It is a way of life, and one that allow us to promote good health, a clean mind,
intellectual stimulation, and the enhancement of one's own life for the rest of our lives. Karate training activates your resolve
mechanisms, your ability to coordinate thought and motion, the way you look at things, and your own body and mind. It teaches you
to become a better person within yourself and towards your peers.
Although traditional Karate training is not for everyone (little children should play with little children), the art its still compatible
with all types of people, regardless of their age, physical shape, and/or previous martial arts training, and should be most inviting to
those who for reason or another have not been able to engage in any physical activity for a while.
Karate training is an unique source of health benefits. It is a great cardiovascular, motion-range, and muscle-toning activity, and
together with the anaerobic, proprioception (position sense), focus and coordination exercises, it could just be considered as an
"all-around" sport. Better still, a number of traditional karate styles (Goju Ryu is one) emphasises the need for the improvement of
the "inner core" or the internal side of the human body, by promoting very articulated breathing exercises which will cater for the
development of strong organs, specially your lung capacity and cardiopulmonary activity.
In our experience, we have noted over the years a number of students who came to train and were asthmatics, and whom after a
period of time either stopped taking or greatly reduced the need for Asthma related medicines. Call it what you will, the examples
have been clear to see, and have benefited these people enormously.
If all this doesn't make you think, you are looking at the wrong screen!
Karate, better than aerobics?

Although we all know women suffer at the hands of men (and women as well), it is sad to see that women's perception of violence
have not changed with the times.
Even if FREE classical self defence classes for women were on offer, they (the classes) do not seem strike a cord with women in
general, and very few ever take the chance to improve their looks, confidence and well being.
Is the first step that hard to take? Is the hurdle that big? Or is it more like,- "I don't like to take anything on in Summer because it
is too hot, and neither in winter, because it's too cold"?
Are thugs and hoodlums going to wait for the seasons to change to assault you? Or rape doesn't occur in summer/winter? Is it the -
"it could never happen to me" syndrome perhaps?
Our Karate school is presently running CERTIFIED SELF DEFENCE courses for women of all ages. This courses are unlimited in time,
and present no shortcuts.
There's everything a woman should know about self protection, rape crisis, domestic violence etc, and the syllabus is second to
none. Most ladies would appreciate the effort that has gone into the setting up of these courses, and none would go home
dissatisfied.
Why not then learn how to protect yourself, and at the same time bringing your fitness level up a couple of notches... or three?
What is it required from you? Nothing! Just turn up, that's all that we require. At the end of the Courses we have a Grading
Ceremony, and everyone gets a Competency Certificate.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEFEND YOURSELF!

More and more people are looking to lose weight, get in shape and improve their appearance. Group exercise classes can range
from high impact boot camp type training to yoga, from step aerobics to water aerobics, and everything in between.
With all these options, the martial arts are often overlooked by people who are primarily concerned with fitness. What makes
martial arts training a better choice for getting in shape than a traditional exercise class?
1. Training in the martial arts is about more than just learning to fight. The physical benefits are amazing. Anyone looking to
get in shape, get healthy and improve their overall physical condition will be very happy with martial arts training.
2. Martial arts training provide a true total body workout. You improve both upper and lower body strength. You also will
strengthen your core. Developing the abs, back and chest are an important part of most martial arts, as much of the power
generated in kicking and punching techniques is generated from your core.
3. You will also develop a level of strength and fitness that is hard to achieve in other classes. Kicking and punching, stance
training, throwing and other martial arts movements are all exercises that involve almost every muscle in your body. Besides the
actual muscles involved in, for example, a punch, you also use the rest of your body for stabilization, power generation and recoil.
The result is that you get a great workout no matter what skill you are practicing on. Many beginner martial artists comment that
they feel great because they are using muscles they didn't even know they had.
4. Besides muscular development, the martial arts are an almost non stop cardio workout. A typical martial arts class is just an
effective total body interval workout. There can be periods of movements that require less effort, followed by intense bursts of
effort. Considering that most classes last anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours, you can get an amazing interval workout
during a martial arts class. Many experts agree that interval training is an effective method of burning fat, improving conditioning
and seeing amazing results. Plus, since you are focused on perfecting a technique and not just exercising, it is easier to keep your
mind off of feeling tired.
5. Finally, martial arts training provide other benefits that are simply not found in an exercise class. First and foremost, you
learn valuable skills that can help you defend yourself if a dangerous situation ever arose. Also, the improved confidence and self
discipline can be life changing for some people. Finally, the martial arts world can open many doors for people. The friendships you
form in training can last a lifetime. The people you meet and experiences you have are simply not available by just showing up at a
gym, working out and then leaving. Martial arts can be a method of getting shape, but it can also be something much more. It can
be wonderful, memorable experience.
