Sensei Mario Garayar J. Jefe Instructor Goju Ryu Karate KKGKK Peru
|

Sensei Garayar started his martial arts career in the early 70's and his first steps were taken in the
Art of Kung Fu. Disillusioned with the outcome, he a some friends decided to take up Karate under a
man of dubious reputation, and the experience did not last long either.
Someone mentioned a Sensei from far away and the group brought him over for a demonstration in
Karate and Kobudo. After watching the man with some amazement, they decided to start training
in a sketchy but well formatted system of self defence under Rodolfo Feng Sensei.
Practice was intense and without the modern comforts of today. No carpets, no wooden floors, not
even a room to practice sometimes...mostly outdoors in very hot and humid conditions. This region
called Ica in Peru is known for its cold nights and extreme temperatures during the day very high in
the Andes mountains, so training was not easy at the best of times.
There were also very brutal methods of teaching including breaking and conditioning under much
duress, like on scorching sand dunes and all those slacking off were treated very harshly indeed.
Over the years, Garayar Sensei has gained in confidence and after a period of some years could only
train by himself while completing his University studies, decided to return to full time teaching
under the careful eye of his teacher and mentor.
Although a higher grade does not worry him in the least, he sought advise from the members of the
Kokusai Kenyukan Goju Ryu Karate and Kobudo Kai in 2006, and after a Gasshuku in the City of
Buenos Aires the same year, he was accepted as their Representative.
He is now embarked in the construction of a modern dojo, and he is looking forward to a long and
rewarding membership with the KKGKK, as he will be provided with all the necessary elements to
make his promotion excel in the future.
The Directors of the KKGKK are proud to have Garayar Sensei amongst the Representatives in Latin
America, and have promise to help develop and uphold the standards of Okinawa karate in his
country of origin.
